【摘要】:Thispracticeshouldbeusedastheinitialstepforevaluatingasiteforitspotentialtosupportanon-sitesepticsystemandtodeterminethebestlocationforsubsurfaceobservationsascoveredinPracticeD5921.Thispracticeshouldbeusedbyindividualsinvolvedwiththeevaluationofpropertiesfortheuseofon-sitesepticsystems.Suchindividualsmayberequiredtobelicensed,certified,ormeetminimumeducationalrequirementsbythelocalorstateregulatoryauthority.Generally,suchindividualsshouldbefamiliarwiththeappropriateregulatoryrequirementsgoverningthedesignandplacementofon-sitesepticsystemsfortheareaofthesitebeinginvestigated,andatleastsomeexperienceortrainingingeomorphology,soils,geology,andhydrology.Thispracticeisonestepinthedesignofanon-sitesepticsystemthatalsoincludessubsurfacecharacterization,seePracticeD5921,stakingandprotectionofthesoilabsorptionorconstructedfilterbedarea,seePracticeD5925,selectionofsystemtype,anddesignofthesystemsizeandconfiguration.Typically,thesameindividualwillperformthesurfaceandsubsurfacecharacterizationofasite.Localregulationandpracticewilldeterminewhetherthesameindividualisresponsibleforallstepsintheprocessoflocatinganddesigninganon-sitesepticsystem.Effectivesurfaceandsubsurfacecharacterizationofasiteforon-sitesepticsystems,however,requiressomeknowledgeofthefollowingforthecountyorstateinwhichthesiteislocated:(1)on-sitesepticsystemtypestypicallyusedfordifferentsoilconditions,and(2)typicalsoilabsorption/filterbedareasrequiredfordifferentwastewaterflowratesandarealsoilwastewaterloadingrates.1.1Thispracticecoversproceduresforthecharacterizationofsurfaceconditionsatasiteforevaluatingsuitabilityforanon-sitesepticsystemfordisposalandtreatmentofwastewater.Thispracticeprovidesamethodforidentifyingpotentiallysuitableareasforsoilabsorptionofseptictankwastewater.1.2Thispracticecanbeusedatanysitewhereon-sitetreatmentofresidentialandnonhazardouscommercialwastewatersusingseptictanksandnaturalsoilsorconstructedfilterbedsisrequiredoranoptionunderconsideration.Thispracticemayalsobeusefulwhenconstructedwetlandsareusedasanalternativewastewatertreatmentmethod.1.3ThispracticeshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithPracticesD5921andD5925.1.4Thispracticeoffersasetofinstructionsforperformingoneormorespecificoperations.Thisdocumentcannotreplaceeducationorexperienceandshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithprofessionaljudgment.Notallaspectsofthispracticemaybeapplicableinallcircumstances.ThisASTMstandardisnotintendedtorepresentorreplacethestandardofcarebywhichtheadequacyofagivenprofessionalservicemustbejudged,norshouldthisdocumentbeappliedwithoutconsiderationofaproject''smanyuniqueaspects.Thewordx201C;Standardx201D;inthetitleofthisdocumentmeansonlythatthedocumenthasbeenapprovedthroughtheASTMconsensusprocess.
